Screensaver

Excerpt from Daily Cures, Wisdom for Healthy Living by Connie Mason Michaelis

For those of you who work or play with computers, you know about screensavers. If you are unaware of the terminology, a screen saver is a computer program that fills the screen with images when the computer is not in use. Initially designed to prevent damage to computer monitors, screensavers are now used primarily for security or just entertainment.  I use my screen saver as a little charge of positive energy every time I look at it.  My screen saver makes me smile and warms my heart.  My home screen saver is a ten-year-old picture of my mom and two sisters, dressed to the nines, at a family wedding.  Every time I look at it, I smile and get that loving feeling.  Some memories should be set in stone. We can choose to focus our mind on a beautiful memory that brings along with it all the positive energy that was present when the event originally happened. The image may be old, but the energy is new every time you see it.

At work, my screensaver is a photo of my husband and me with six children and 15 grandchildren, taken on the 4th of July. It also makes me smile. It also reminds me of how time flies and families grow up.  There is nothing static in this life. It helps me remember to be present and treasure the moment.  Whether you have a screensaver or not, I encourage you to collect images that instantly make you smile. It’s not about living in the past; it’s about resurfacing the feelings of love and gratefulness. Mom’s face is more precious to me today than ever.  Our relationship certainly was not perfect, but I’ve forgotten what was imperfect!  She makes me smile today!  Whether it is a photo or a great memory, we can enjoy the positive energy it brings to us at any moment!
