The Best Anti-Aging Product

Excerpt from Daily Cures, Wisdom for Healthy Aging by Connie Mason Michaelis

I’ve got a product for you, and it is guaranteed to reduce signs of aging such as grumpiness, boredom, irritability, loneliness, poor appetite, insomnia, dementia, pain, arthritis, ad nauseam. The magic elixir for all these ailments is having fun.  Remember, you don’t quit having fun because you get old, you get old when you quit having fun!  Anti-aging is a word we hear and see in print a great deal.  It applies predominantly to cosmetics.  What does it matter if the face is perfectly smooth and flawless if there is no smile on it?  Having fun with a dose of laughter, joy, and enthusiasm is the perfect cure for sagging skin.  When you smile, everything is pointing up!

Did you know that having fun activates the release of neuropeptides, the feel-good neurotransmitters?  Dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin are all released when a smile flashes across your face. Not only does this relax your body, but it can also lower your heart rate and blood pressure.  If you have trouble letting go and having fun, here are some tips: be yourself, loosen up, stop following all the rules, stop taking yourself and other things so seriously, do something entirely new, and, most of all, quit worrying about what others think. Being a little silly gives us a chance to laugh at ourselves! You can fake it ‘til you make it because smiling makes you feel better, no matter what you are feeling inside. Research tells us that social interaction is critical for good health as you age.  Finding activities that are fun is so important.  Volunteerism is a great way to be social and find pleasure while helping others. Remember, laughter is good medicine and guaranteed to work.  It might smooth away the wrinkles, too!

Listening to music, especially those tunes you liked best during your teens and twenties also activates the release of neuropeptides, those feel-good neurotransmitters. My personal favorites can all be found on YouTube. Best of all, I can watch them for free whenever the mood strikes. Listen to your favorites often and reap the benefits. Come on, have some fun! Thanks for another timely message Connie!
