The Jetsons

Excerpt from Daily Cures, Wisdom for Healthy Aging by Connie Mason Michaelis

Let’s walk down memory lane for a few minutes.  Do you remember the Jetsons?  Their TV debut was in 1962.  They lived in the futuristic community called Orbit City in the year 2062.  George Jetson, his wife Jane, their teenage daughter Judy and son Elroy lived in the Skypad Apartments.  They had a robot maid called Rosie and a family dog named Astro.  They entertained us with their push-button appliances and other space-age conveniences.  George commuted to work at Cosmo Space Sprockets in his bubble-top Aerocar, where he worked one hour, two days a week, and complained about the exhausting hard labor.  If you are smiling right now, we’re on the same page!

Our cars may not fly, but time sure does!  How could it possibly be 52 years ago that the TV show first debuted?  There have been so many amazing things that have happened.  How about trips to the moon or the invention of personal computers, Concord flights to Europe in three hours, cell phones, Google optics, DVDs, on and on. How has your life changed?  Are you good at adjusting to change?  What once was fanciful thinking is now our daily reality.  Embracing change is a crucial ingredient to successful aging.  Those who resist suffer more. The Jetsons have been on reruns for years, but in real life, we have one opportunity to take this journey. Moving forward and embracing change is more difficult the older we get, but hanging on to the past is a mistake. Don’t be like Fred and Wilma Flintstone and be frozen in the past; it is always time to move forward!

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” Walt Disney

Thanks Connie, the Jetsons were one of my favorites growing up. I find it amazing that many of the futuristic conveniences have now become a reality. Unfortunately, the work week has not changed much, in fact, it appears to have become longer and more stressful 😱. Fortunately, I am now retired and able to enjoy more free time for hobbies, travel, and music. Also, I enjoy the improvements in technology, especially YouTube! Hard to believe one can watch classic reruns, concerts, TedX talks, and podcasts. Heres to more advancements in the years to come.

All the best,

Mike
